The Process
Increasingly high taxes, new governmental regulations and shifting attitudes about the environment are affecting the yachting industry in big ways. How can a brand stay competitive in the industry but also help yacht owners become more eco-friendly to match the changing times?
Greenlight is the name of the iPad application I developed to help solve some ongoing issues in the yachting industry. Educating yacht owners about green boating and attempting to change their boating behaviors was a challenging task, especially since I had almost no knowledge about yachts or boating in general.
My plan of attack
- Discovery: Researched yacht industry trends and green boating practices. Visited Salone Nautico in Genova, Italy and interviewed yacht owners, crews and manufacturers to gain insight into typical yachting experiences. Worked with my client to understand their customer base and what value-added services would be beneficial to their business.
- Brainstorming: Investigated ways to "wow" a yacht owner with service-oriented rewards.
- Sketching: Discovered ways to seamlessly incorporate green boating options into a familiar method of planning yacht outings.
- Wireframing/Graphic design: Brought my concepts to a tangible reality and gained the client's approval.
